Winter in Tasmania

It seems we have experienced the best and worst of Tasmanian Winter, since we arrived we have had  beautiful, cold crisp , sunny days and then we have had freezing cold rainy days. One of those cold rainy days fell on Father’s Day, so we planned a really special Father’s Day treat for Allan and took him to Launceston to  the Tasmanian Quilt Expo…..isn’t he a lucky man!  The expo is their equivalent of the Sydney or Brisbane Quilt Shows, although not as big, it was really interesting with some really beautiful quilts on display. I’ll try to load some photos.

We have been busy since we arived, our friend has had her surgery and is back home. We are very pleased that we arrived in time to be instructed in the care of the horses before she disappeared for a couple of days.  I have to say that rugging and unrugging those giant horses is quite a daunting task, but now we know what we are doing they are actually very well mannered and we are now very confident when we go in to feed them.

I’m sorry to have missed Fay’s workshop and I’m hoping I can catch up with it when I get home.

I’ve finished two small projects since I’ve been here, have tried a bit of EPP, can’t say that I love it yet, but I’ll keep trying.p

It is really great to be able to keep up with the group happenings through this blog.

Cheers Linda

Elizabeth has just returned from a trip around NSW. She has visited three fabric shops : ‘Hobby Sew’ in Figtree, ‘Nel’s Fabric Place’ in Temora and ‘Stitch Between the Bridges’ in Tamworth. All are recommended!!! Below are some photos from the trip.

Just home from a Christmas/New Year trip to South West NSW to see family. Then did a little road trip to the South Coast. Stopped at only three patchwork shops but they were very interesting. The first was The Braidwood Quilt Shop which had tons of fabric all set out in themes. Next was one of the nicest shops I’ve seen – Steph’s in Moruya. There I found new and unusual fabrics and beautiful kits. (see photo below) Lastly I visited Pepper Lane in Narooma which was recomended by Sheryl. This shop is tending towards art quilting and has creative inspired classes. Missed lots of other shops as my driver doesn’t stop very often.

  1. Pam says:

Could you please tell me about the banner at the top of your site that’s looks like a quilt with women bathers on it… is it a pattern I could purchase? Thankyou

    • Hi Pam, The banner is indeed a quilt. It was a friendship quilt and the owner drew up the lady outline from an idea she saw somewhere and then her friends were each asked to dress her for the beach. There were some very funny outfits and the quilt is much loved by its owner. So no pattern I’m afriad. Thank you for reading our blog. Regards Elizabeth
