24th October 2023

Weather is warming and still no rain. This year is going by so fast, Christmas is two months away. We are all thinking about the Christmas Challenge for this year. Make a saleable item for the Sales Table that starts with your first name initial. It can be anything you think might sell on the sales table at our next Áiring of the Quilts or Quilt Exhibition. Example: If your name is Maureen you might like to make a Mug bag or Mug rug etc. Can’t wait to see how your imaginations are inspired. Judging will be at the Christmas Party on 12th December. Good luck.

You may have noticed a container on the trolley at the Hall asking for donations of long life grocery items for the ‘Foodbank’ for the Christmas distribution to Local in need families.

Thank you to all of you who have donated. Our collection is well on it’s way with the goods donated already. But the container will remain until end of November or first week of December. If you can keep up the good work we should be able to make a difference by helping those in need.

The sun is shining and so are our members. Today’s turnout was a very happy affair. Lots to see and do.

Everyone discussing what they were going to do at the Brisbane Quilt Exhibition on Thursday. An early start and a very late finish, but all thought it was worth it. Next week we should be able to review their experiences.

Show and Tell this week was light but still some stunning projects.

SHOW AND TELL

Marlene

Marlene is Artist of the Month at Ferry Park next Month so an extra effort was made to produce something that would get gasps from all those who view her beautiful Japanese inspired Quilt.

It is stunning and Marlene has priced it for sale.

Such an exceptional quilt.

The close up reveals the beautiful fabrics.

Fat quarters were used in the making of this quilt. Such a beautiful way of displaying these items.

Well done Marlene we are sure it will be snatched up in no time.

Janet

Janet has been working on her quilt top since last Christmas. Hand sewn and Paper pieced with tiny intricate pieces produced this stunning quilt. Such patience needed for this job.

Such a wonderful job Janet. It makes me want to have a go at hand sewing. Phew! hold on it’s passed, I think I will leave the hand sewing to the experts like Janet.

Patience, perseverance and good eyesight is required for this project. Fabulous result Janet and we can’t wait to see it finished.

Neil

Neil has generously offered to projects for anyone wishing to have a go at making the Christmas Tree and a Dog.

All you have to do is make it look like a dog.

Make this one look like a Christmas Tree. Simple.

See Neil if you think you can do justice to this project.

Thanks Neil.

On a warm spring day we all packed into the hall ready for our part 2 of our crazy patchwork blocks. To add the embellishments. Penne was on hand to guide and instruct if necessary with some great samples to inspire us.

Decisions to be made and crazy blocks to embellish.

Just some of the idea’s

How to use your finished block. A bag? Just one idea.

This sample is by a very practiced hand. Just gorgeous.

Penne was there to help if required.

26th September 2023

It’s that time of the year when each week is busier than the last. Our Diaries are recording all our activities from now until our Quilt Exhibition in 2024. So keep your eye on our Blog for these coming events.

It was the last Tuesday in September today and the hall was full of members wanting to wish our Birthday members, Marcia R and Neil J, a great Birthday. Of course cake was involved.

A team effort.

We had a new member join us today thanks to Claudette. Welcome Carol, hope you like us.

SHOW AND TELL.

Dianne

A new member of Dianne’s family is due by weeks end. This adorable baby quilt will be there to welcome them.

Who couldn’t love this very cute quilt.

Adorable from top to bottom.

Elizabeth has made her first Quillow.

The pillow the quillow turns into when folded.

Such lovely choice of colours.

Great job Elizabeth.

A quilt Elizabeth has been busy.

Love the design and the colours.

The close up.

Another great effort Elizabeth.

Judy

Judy has been busy making a couple of bags using some scraps. Really great idea.

The close up.

Mary

Mary has been working on this quilt for some time and finally it is very close to being finished. Quilting done, so only binding to go.

a dog lover I believe.

The close up.

The back.

A thoroughly enchanting quilt. Great job Mary.

Lawrence Quilt Exhibition

Quite a few of us went to the Lawrence Quilt Exhibition on Saturday 23rd September. The array of quilts was stupendous. Quilts everywhere. Quite a show.

Nancy busy writing out raffle tickets.

The welcome committee was just so friendly.

A demo on an old singer sewing machine took us all back quite a few years. Thank goodness we went Electric and Electronic. It would have taken three times as long to complete the projects.

It was a great day, with oodles of quilts to inspire us, and topped off with a lovely morning tea.

19th September 2023

Spring has finally joined us. Lots of sunshine and warm days. BUT, no rain, it has been over three weeks since any rain, even though it was small amount, so rain dances required people.

Further information has been received on the trip to Port Macquarie by Dianne and Beth. It was held at the CWA hall for the ‘Modern Quilt Guilds’ inaugural get together.. It will be held every 2nd year, so mark this in your diaries as a must see, highly recommended by Dianne and Beth. A fun and informative weekend.

Update on our resident Longarm Quilter, Neil Jackman.

Neil has closed his shop in Maclean and is now running his business from his home at 12 The Glen, Maclean. You can contact him on his mobile and make an appointment to see him on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

SHOW AND TELL

Not much to see this week, but as always there is always something.

Val.

Val has been working on her Lounge covers for some time. Painstakingly putting her pieces together.

All handsewn. Using her stash of scraps. Great job Val.

Chris is trying to look like a Lounge to display the cover. Thanks Chris.

Chris

Chris bought in a beautiful baby animal panel looking for a volunteer to make something out of it. Val volunteered and will make a baby quilt by adding some borders. We can’t wait to see the end result.

It is so cute. It will make a great baby quilt. Thanks Chris and Val.

Dianne

Dianne has been working on her Stained Glass quilt for the past couple of weeks and she has finally finished it just in time for the Lawrence Quilt Show next Saturday (23rd September 2023).

So lets all go along and check out the show and support Dianne.

Lovely, it actually looks like stained glass. Great job Dianne.

The close up.

And a cute back to the quilt.

Good luck Dianne. We are all with you.

12th September 2023

We must have misplaced Spring, because today had a chilly feel to it. Of course this didn’t dampen our enthusiasm. Show and Tell was busy this morning.

SHOW AND TELL

Gail.

As you all know Gail has been given the humongous task of sorting through Betty Harris’ stash, So, each week Gail turns up with some fabric or a UFO of Betty’s for one of the members to finish. Last week Gail bought in some fabric she thought Debra might be able to put to good use. Debra did not disappoint and we have 5 articles for the Sales Table.

A zippered pouch. Used for any number of things.

2 Small bags.

2 Japanese Knot Bags. These are used on your wrist to carry those small things in the bag like your car keys, phone and of course your name tag from Maclean Patchwork and Quilters.

Great job Debra, and Clever Gail for directing the fabric to Debra.

Beth

Beth and Dianne travelled down to Port Macquarie for some kind of gathering. Of course they bought back something different for us all to see. This time a ‘Kawandi Kit’ made up by Lifeline as a way of raising some funds. Beth and Dianne are always ready to help anyone out, so purchased the kit. Created by the Siddi peoples of India as a way to use up scraps of fabric. Looks like a bit of fun so check with Beth and Dianne if you want to know more, or the Internet can help.

Another way to deal with scraps.

Marcia H.

Marcia was the receiver of items from a deceased estate containing Hexagons, Suffolk puffs and Dresden plates. We know what Marcia will be doing for the coming weeks.

Some vintage fabric amongst it all.

Good luck Marcia, can’t wait to see the finishes articles.

Penne

Penne has been working on her Friendship quilt. The theme was Kombi Vans.

What a great range of colours. Looking fabulous Penne.

Marie

Last week was our inhouse workshop on Crazy Patchwork. We were all given a template to test if we were actually listening. Marie completed two versions, one left and one right. They look great and are now awaiting next months workshop, to add the embellishments with tutoring by Penne.

Can’t tell if one is right or left, as it is crazy patchwork. Great job Marie. Want to see the finished article.

Chris

Chris’ hands are never idle. Another fabulous quilt. When asked who it was for she answered ”The cupboard”. Translated that means I am ready with a quilt when next asked for one.

Stunning Chris. This will be loved by whoever is the lucky recipient.

The close up.

Great job as usual Chris.

Margaret

Margaret bought along an old quilt she made when still living in Sydney. It is what we call an Heirloom quilt as it contains embroidery work by family members.

Gorgeous colours. Embroidered doilies etc.

Lovely embroidery work on the doilies.

Margaret’s family is very talented.

Just beautiful Margaret. Such a lovely memento to cherish.

Liz

Liz has just finished another quilt. This one has her favourite animal included.

Red and white and black. Quite outstanding.

The cats are all beautifully sewn.

Terrific job Liz, you are becoming an excellent patch worker.

5th September 2023

On a lovely spring day we all gathered as usual. A few faces were missing but the hall was still packed with many members of the group. The first Tuesday in the month is Inhouse Workshop day. Todays subject was ‘Çrazy Patchwork’ with Mary W.

Most of those attending today flocked around Mary eager to learn and be inspired. Mary did not disappoint.

There was a handout as well as some books to inspire.

Standing room only.

A finished example. But of course you could shape it anyway you wanted.

Trudy having a close look.

Thanks Mary, it was a very successful workshop and next Month Penne will show us how to embelish it. So don’t miss next months workshop.

SHOW AND TELL

Debra P.

Anne from the Maclean Hospital Auxiliary put in a request for some colourful cushions for the Palliative Care Unit. Debra didn’t waste anytime coming up with her selection.

Quite a variety and all in just a week.

Bringing the outside inside.

Cows and flowers can make anyone smile.

Great job Debra. These will be a feature at the Hospital.

Claudette

Claudette has completed her flower block for the ‘Block of the Month’ quilt.

Just love these colours. And the tulips. Great job Claudette.

Mary Grace

Mary Grace has been quietly working away on another quilt. This one is small hexagons. She is nearly finished so won’t be long before we see the finished quilt.

Love the colours. Just like confetti.

Chris

Even though Chris hasn’t finished this crochet project we thought you might like to see a work in progress.

Just love the colour combinations. Can’t wait to see the finished article. Well done Chris.

FYI

After thirteen (13) years of adding to the blog on a weekly basis we finally ran out of room.

SO, I had to remove a few pictures in order to produce part 2 of last weeks blog. This has forced us to make the decision to clear out some of our earliest blogs to make room for the new. Our first blog was August 25 , 2010. I will be trying to preserve as much as I can on USB’s. so we don’t lose any of those wonderful photo’s or comments. I will not start this process until every member is happy with this decision. So you have till the end of September to voice your concerns or make suggestions.

29th August 2023 – Part 1

Nearly at the end of Winter and we can feel spring around the corner. We have experienced some spring like days and last Wednesday at 30 deg showed us some Summer. We possibly won’t get as much sewing done as the weather draws us outside but we will just have to sew at night. lol.

What a wonderful day we had with all our Birthday people and of course our special 90th Birthday girl, Nancy T. Nancy is a Life member with Maclean Patchwork and Quilters and due to health and covid we missed her amongst our ranks. She was welcomed by one and all and members of her Lawrence Quilt Group came along to help her celebrate. It was a great day and of course morning tea and the Birthday cakes will have us all steering clear of our weight scales for a week.

With 90 years to practice Nancy took the cake cutting in her stride.

Nancy’s favorite colours and flowers. Plenty of cake for everyone.

Three members from Lawrence plus Margaret and Dianne from MPQ.

A lovely sunny day for Nancy’s Birthday. The glare from the Window makes it hard to see her but she was presented with a gift from the Group and her reply was heartfelt.

Our August Birthday girls sharing their own Birthday cake.

A great day all round. Enough cake to feed an army.

Please check out part 2 of 29th August 2023/ shortly
